Default Kf82 best options for total rebuild or swap

Is there an engine that would swap with the kf82. I have a complete kf 82 with a scared crank and a broken rod. This is my first cart needing a little advice on the best route as far as engines. If I could figure out if something swaps that might be a idea since I don't know much about these engines.

I started in the same boat as you about 2 years ago. I was lucky enough to find a running KF82 motor to swap out. But before I found it I had found a cart shop that would re-machine the crank and a new rod together. I would have mailed the crank and new rod out to the shop and they would fix them up and send them back.

You might also want to lurk in the motor swap section of this forum, there are lots of guys swapping in different motors. You could either learn how to do a swap for a completely different motor or else find someone who has done a swap and has a running KF82 they no longer need.

Also check out this thread, it has the info of the shop I found that would do the crank/rod work:

Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Thanks, but I took the engine out this morning and cleaned on it and it has a spot in the block where its cracked and bulging out. I don't think im gonna try and find someone in this town who would want to mess with it so im on here to try and find an engine to buy.

Don't let the bulge/crack in the side of the block worry you. You should be able to JB Weld it, as long as it hasn't turned into a long crack. A few guys here have rebuilt their engines and just repaired the crack. But if you can find a new motor that's always good too.

After cleaning the engine and really examining it I also found a small crack in the cylinder wall about an inch from the bottom. I don't think itll effect the compression, but im sure its not good. If anyone has a engine out there please contact me through here. Ill be checking frequently. Thanks in advance.

The crack towards the bottom of the cylinder head shouldn't be an issue either. The only reason it's cracked/broken is because the broken rod/piston assembly smacked it when the rod finally let go. I rebuilt a motor that had a chunk missing out of the bottom. It's really no big deal. Lots of KF82s are rebuilt using the same cylinders with that type of damage. As you said, it won't affect compression that far down. It'll be fine as long as there's no cracks going up into the cylinder wall, into the ring contact area.

Anything else?

Do a clone swap as the flat head engine sux for torque & power
My 99 has a lot more torque with the stock fe290 engine.

I would certainly look in the clone or big block section here and see if this is something you might want to do.It is a solution for out of production engines.Cheap replacement parts and lots of power.
