Default Weird voltage readings, should I charge or not?

So I bought 6 new batteries for my new to me 36v ez-go. My charger is old and seems like it just charges based on when I set the timer dial. Day 1 I charged the batteries before our drive. Trojan says do an equalization charge (can't remember what it was around 38.6 volts. Last week I watched it and charged it up to that.

Drove it a couple times down the road for breakfast/etc and charged it every time like people say - But only for 15 minutes. The reason why is bc the voltage has never gone below 37 volts. 38+ was after the first charge of 1 hr. Then it's always been above 38 since. Then I drove it a week later (today) for about 5 miles down to the grocery store and it only says 37.2 volts. What's going on? Don't get me wrong that voltage sounds great, but I'm worried to charge the cart now. When am I going to get closer to 36-ish volts? I think I read 36.8 was max full and it tapered down to just above 36 to empty.

Batteries were from May and bought 1 week ago

Sounds like your not letting the charger fully charge your batteries. The charger should charge your pack to 44v - 46v before it kicks off..

you need to drain the batteries to 75% then place on charger and leave it up to 20 hrs , i repeat it 2x you will see and in cress in battery performance over the next 12 charges ... remember water with distilled water only .. top off after charge

here is a johnnieb state of charge chart

Yes, if you got a dvm keep an eye on it and watch it climb. Try and catch it right before it kicks off.

I was freaking out about blowing them up tonight or something bad and it seemed they were always high so I was worried but knew I needed to charge them. In the beginning I think my brain saw 38.6 instead of 48.6 when I was looking at the #s

Now that I screwed that up. Should I start over w an equalization charge? It's on the charger now.

I bought 2 gallons of distilled water and a auto feeder bottle at the battery store that way I can quickly auto fill the batteries vs spilling from the gallon jugs
