Default Should I buy this used carb for a G16?

I have a G16 that's needs a carburetor. I saw a post on eBay for one that's used but looks OEM. I asked the seller and they said it worked but need some cleaning, which I'm fine with. I also have a cheap Chinese carb that I can use to rebuild the carb with. I heard the cheap carbs are good for that.

For 55 dollars, is this a good ahead.

That carb may be OEM but its certainly been around the block a few times.
At the very least it is going to need an overnight soaking in carb dip.

Keep the aftermarket parts with the aftermarket carb and file the whole thing away in the trash.

I can afford to pay the new full price of a OEM carb but the price hurts. For 55 dollars and some carb cleaner i could get that to work. Would it be better to buy a new one just to not take a risk?

Thats your call.
New OEM is pricey. I get that. Suggested retail is $300.00.
Cheap aftermarket does not work.
$55 for the carb plus the cost of a new needle and bowl gasket and you may be good to go.

Somebody has had that carb apart or at least messed with it. You can see that the protective limiting cap is gone from the pilot needle

I saw this on partzilla for 175 and it looks like it might work. At 175 it might be worth to just buy new just for the warranty.

Used carbs are a gamble. At $55 plus some new parts, now you're up to $70-$80. It might work out. Or it might not work at all. That's the gamble.

A new factory carb is sure to solve a carb issue. I did the same thing on a Briggs engine. China carb was $25. Ran worse lol. Ponied up $90 for a new one, bam, purrs like a kitten right out of the box.

Thanks kinda figured it’s a gamble. Do you know by chance that the link from partzilla is from Yamaha and is OEM. I never bought from them. is that the correct part number for a G16.

I am a Yamaha dealer and that is a correct part number from Yamaha...though it is an old part number the new is the same but ends in 16-00 instead of 15-00...but that is the correct carb
