Default ICON i40L Battery Longevity

Question for you other ICON owners. I have only had my my cart for three days but have noticed that my mileage is about 10-11 miles before the battery meter drops to yellow and begins limp mode. This seems a little low to me but like I said I haven't had this cart long at all. My previous cart (club car presendent) lasted at lease 17-20 miles before it began to lose significant power. I am running Trojan T-875's if that matters. While I understand that this is a heavier cart it seems to me that I should be getting more distance/charge.

Something is not right....

Hopefully it could be as simple as tire pressure. I keep mine at 25 psi.
However my cart is not lifted like yours. Your tires are larger diameter
than my I40's.

Low tire pressure on a cart increases rolling resistance and cart expends
more power to run same distance.

It wouldn't hurt to check tire pressure.

Hope this helps.

Happy cartin'

I did read that batteries need a break-in period so my hope is that battery life will improve over time. I'll check back here in a few weeks to update. Thanks!

Check with your ICON dealer they should be able to pinpoint the problem.

Next time I'm doing some long drives, I'll monitor mine because honestly I think both of mine are the same as yours.

My I60L has 8 trojans batteries and my I40L has 6 and I think they both have similar range.

Granted, I turned my speed way up, I have tons of stop signs, a decent amount of hills, and loud speakers that could contribute to a reduced range.

I have owned my I40L now for about 3 weeks. Same thing started happening with my cart. Dealer came and picked it up and it turned out to be some sort of a programming issue. Working fine now.

Really?! Did they give any more details about the programming issue?

I think there are 3 or 4 things that get programmed on the carts:
  • Controller
  • Charger
  • Electronic Dash

The 4th possibly being the BMS (battery management system), but I'm not sure where that is and/or if that's apart of the charger itself?

I know the controller software and I'm not sure if anything stands out as even a possibility of being an issue.

The dash is kind of a simple device that I think just has inputs and parameters and then does its think.

So was it the charger? And/or does anyone know if the BMS is apart of the charger?

I don't know the specifics but it was something with the charger software. They said they had 3-4 carts come back with the same issue.

Glad you checked in with your dealer...sounds like an easy fix!

Hope you get it serviced soon.

Happy cartin'

I'm the OP and as a follow up my batteries are doing fine now. Put close to 25 miles on a full charge and the SOC percentage was I believe 58%. This seems fine to me. Must have been a battery break-in period that affected the initial couple of charging cycles.
