Re: 1976 Harley Davidson Clone Swap, Anyone done one?
Now you have really done it Block ! All have to do is find a yamaha engine cradle complete add Suzi's 40 + hp 6500 rpm engine now with reverse AND 4 stroke gearing. In fact add the high speed gears I never installed in Vicki and have a Rickety old Harley cart that could do untold MPH.

Re: 1976 Harley Davidson Clone Swap, Anyone done one?
It is funny that the G2 up in hamilton NJ caught my eye. My thought was to part out the stocker and install the 440 in the G2. I think Rifter had done that at an earlier time. But at the end of the day both carts right now serve my purposes so well it doesn't make sense to take on a big project. BUT I will admit IF I were ever to do a 3rd cart it would be a sled engine in a 4 stroke yamaha cart.

Re: 1976 Harley Davidson Clone Swap, Anyone done one?
The G2/9 you only need a bar across the front for the two pivots, than is it. You need a place to mount the top of the shocks. Its about easy as it gets if you have a MIG lol. Or the G16 style is not much different other than the panhard bar. From a welders perspective (that I once was), these carts are super simple and near anything can be done with a grinder and MIG. And MIGs are fast, way faster than machining something (another area I've been in). I did my first swap in the G9 before mounts were out there, it was like 2-3 hours I had the engine out, the clone in and sitting on its new mount all welded up just waiting to get holes drilled in (including engineering it all from nothing time), and I kept the stock mounts too. It might be easier to toss them and put bars all the way across, but I didn't want the vibration. It took relatively forever to figure out the exhaust, air intake and filter, and cables. And I had the exhaust made by robertson but had to fit it all in and weld all the coupling parts that took some time, longer than the mount did. But there are more parts available today to make things easier.

Re: 1976 Harley Davidson Clone Swap, Anyone done one?
Some people here have done crazy stuff. Once I worked next door to this shop, the guy has passed now but he was so good. He would put a truck on stands with the frame say five foot high and remove the entire suspension. Then set a couple axles under it with 36 tires or whatever. Then he would build the entire suspension truck to axles and just weld it up. They ran them in mud runs usually. Lot of people came to him for that stuff he was so good at it, and those trucks got beat hard. He had a pipe bender, welder, plasma cutter, and a rule is all I ever saw.

Re: 1976 Harley Davidson Clone Swap, Anyone done one?
I'm still waiting for someone to put a Harley engine in a cart, I bet someone has. I thought about running two gx200 clones and time them with a cogged belt like a harley for the sound, but thats only 16hp or something with no governor, though you can get more that is still 23 or something for a mild (cheap) build up. Ah it would be fun though. My clone has to be around 20-25hp and its not bad ride far as power, maybe that would be a good setup.
