Brake problem? Need advice
Just test drove my latest purchase: 2004 EZ-GO TXT with 6" drop axle lift and 24x11-10 Dirt Devils with rear flip flop seat, 6 T-125s and receiver hitches front and back with portable winch mounted up front.
I give you those details so you get an idea of the weight. So here's my question: loaded with me & another person up-front (~400lbs) should the stock brakes be strong enough to keep us from rolling backwards down a slight incline? I don't understand % of grade but I would say it was < 20 degrees and with the brakes to the floor, we slide right down the hill. So are there upgraded brake kits I should consider or should I just check/replace my current brakes? Last time I played golf, which has been a while, stock brakes could lock up and stop on a dime. I know I'm dealing with a much heavier cart now though. Let me know if my expectations are just wrong. Appreciate any advice and will have pics soon after I fix the flat from yesterday and slime the tires. |

Re: Brake problem? Need advice
Added wt plus larger dia tires will stress the brake system. Should it hold? I think it should, wont stop like stock but should hold.
Try cleaning and adjusting everything first before laying out for discs. Brake pedal pivot point is prone to get sticky, dirty cables can drag, dirt/mud in drums or on shoes can cause slip or just new shoes might help. |

Thanks Crash. Hopefully I will get time to inspect this weekend before ordering anything.
Someone mentioned there's a brake adjustment. I downloaded the tech manual from here and am starting to read up on it. I think he may have meant a cable adjustment from what I've seen so far. |

Re: Brake problem? Need advice
I mudbog my cart alot and I have a problem with my brakes failing to work afterwords. I have to take the drums off and clean and scrub down in the brake assmb and adjust the tightness of the brakes. I have a Yamaha so it will probably be a different procedure on your cart. After Im done readjusting them and get it all back together my brakes are like new...
Hope this helps! |
