Spring is coming! Opinions wanted!
Well, I havent been here since Sept 17th. Since spring is coming up, I figured I would start thinking about getting my golf cart ready for the new year.
So, I have just a plain jane cart, nothing special on it. I've looked into different parts and whatnot for it, but I just can't think of anything I'd really NEED for it. It's a 1988 CC in 36v. My main usage is driving around in the yard, doing garden chores (mainly hauling veggies back to the house) and that type of stuff. I use it to drive out back and go shooting as well. What I'm looking for is simple modifications that I could do alone. Granted, I'm not the best handy man or anything like that. I've considered lifting it and adding larger tires, but would I be able to do that on my own, knowing I have bad coordination? Money isn't an issue, its more or less being able to install it myself. So, any help is appreciated. Sorry, I've been gone so long because of the snow. Slowly approaching 200" within the last 3 and a half months. EDIT: Ugh. Its late. Please move to right section. Sorry. |

Re: Spring is coming! Opinions wanted!
Doing a lift and installing larger diameter tires are well within the scope of most owners with some simple tools and knowledge of use. You would need a floor jack strong enough for about 800-1000 pounds of weight, 4 auto jack stands again rated for 800-1000 pounds under frame, smooth flat solid surface to work on, slight?? possible?? need for some source of heat to release stuck tie rod ends IF needed? Be sure and read installation instructions first to make lift kit installation easier. When picking a lift kit dont go by price alone as there is really poor quality kits available? And in my opinion go with a USA built lift kit as many Chinese and ?? are very poor quality? ALWAYS GO TO FORUM SPONSORS FIRST FOR QUALITY PARTS.
If you still have stock 36 volt speed controls you will see some drop in low speed performance when going to larger diameter tires, and some as well with lift kit installation? You will be putting heavier load on resistors and solenoids and motor by having old style resistance speed coils. If you get different tires and wheels it should be simple swap just like changing a tire on your auto as only jack and tire lug wrench needed. |

make sure you get complete directions one of the biggest complaints i hear is lack of directions. one upgrade that would help is going to 4 gage cables, just make sure you do all cables not just battery cables...........its a good one day project just buy a roll of 4 gage cable and a bag of ends and with a good crimper for cable ends your in business.................take one cable off at a time measure it than cut a peice of new cable pop ends on and bingo.....you,ll be surprised at the difference it will make..............than spend a day just cleaning all your elec,s, soleniod, resistors, battery posts, F&R componants, ect..........i was ready to head to camp 2 weeks ago for the weekend temps were in the 60,s up camp they dropped into the 20,s now this weekend the teens ( crap ) but i can,t wait.........i have a 86C.C. with the old flathead engine and can,t wait to start doodleing with it........and just hanging out well i do have a deck to replace but i,ll get to that...........just really want to get up there..............................

Lifted, do you need a lift, ground clearance or riding in the snow?
Your usage sounds much the same as mine. The only thing I want to add to Haha is a bed of some kind to haul things on and serve as a work bench around the place. The extra height would be a pain getting on and off for me. |

Thanks for the responses.
DOOmsman-No, I dont use it in the snow or need any clearance. Last fall when I used it for pumpkins, it was a pain. We could only get like 4 or 5 on. I actually took people out to pick pumpkins on it and brought them back with their pumpkins. Free rides. :D |

Re: Spring is coming! Opinions wanted!
Now, my golf cart is "hot wired" and runs without a key. In order for me to mess with the cables and not kill myself, would I have to disconnect it before changing any wires or anything? Theres soo much about these, I dont know if I can handle it. :P
