Re: Driving and heard a pop, then
Ok, The transaxle should be fine.
Like I said, if you can see burn marks on the armature, the motor needs to come out and be taken apart. It sounds like it had a brush failure. |

Re: Driving and heard a pop, then
Depends on the motor, if yours has brush inspection covers you may be able to pull them out enough to check them, but usually it’s best to remove the motor and have it put on a bench. It will have to be removed anyway if the brushes are damaged. If the commutator has burn marks it will need to be machined before installing new brushes. A damaged commutator will eat up new brushes in no time and may cause further damage to the armature.
If you get the motor out and find it’s not worth saving, then you’re already halfway to installing a new motor anyway. You can try testing your motor with a 12v battery while it’s still in the cart. Does your motor have F1/F2terminals or S1/S2 terminals? |

Re: Driving and heard a pop, then
Ok.
Before you try hooking power up to it make sure none of the terminals have continuity to the case. Be sure pack negative and positive are disconnected. Label and Disconnect all motor wires and secure them off to the side. Use a wrench on the lower nuts to make sure the studs do not turn. Use the continuity test function, or use an ohmeter and test between the A and F terminals. You should have NO continuity from either A to either F. You should have continuity from A to A, and from F to F, but none between any A and F. Test from each terminal to the motor case. You should have No continuity from any terminal to the case. If you have continuity from any A or F terminal to the case, there’s no point goin any further, remove the motor for inspection. If you do Not have continuity to the case, then jumper the A1 to F1 with a short 10ga wire. Jumper the A2 to F2 with 10ga wire. Now connect 12v supply to the A1 post. Connect 12v negative to the A2 post. The motor should spin. If it does not, it needs to be removed for repair. |
