Default PDS Cart Wiring question(s)

Tried to edit this to change the header from wiring to power cable, but it wouldn't let me.

Talking to a cart dealer today about my buggie and he asked me what gauge cables I had on it and I told him that I knew the ones on the top of the Batteries were 4 ga. because I put them on. He said I should change on the one's going to the controller ASAP and the one's going to the motor also if they weren't already 4 ga. He said this would help my controller and motor live longer. Because of the economy and me being in industrial sales (tough times), I want to put off buying the controller as long as possible.

Now the questions.

What gauge cables does E-Z-Go use from the controller to the motor ?

Is it possible that the motor and controller can go out at the same time or is it usually just the controller ?

He said he was starting to use 500 amp Alltrax controllers and after-market motors on the PDS models he sells. When I buy I'm hoping to go with my stock motor and the Alltrax 400 per you guys recommendation in another thread.

Thanks,
K

I was hoping that was the case, but he acted like most of the time they both burnt up and I hadn't read that here from the experts !

But when they do it is usually on lifted DCS/PDS carts running stock motor and controls.

That is a false and missleading statement. Smaller gauge wires have more resistance which limits current flow.

OK, pay attention. Standard issue from E-Z-Go is 6g cable throughout, EXCEPT on DCS/PDS carts where they use 6g on the batteries and to the controller, and 4g from the controller to the motor. Replace them ALL anyway because they don't use high strand count cable and the lugs are junk.

Ditto this...You don't need to spend any money on anything right now. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll lose a little power due to the higher resistance.

It's really a non-issue in your circumstance.
