Yamaha G2 Build! (Finally)
Hi everyone, so this will be my long awaited Yamaha G2 build! I got this cart at the beginning of June from an older gentleman (bought on Craigslist) It was in really rough shape rust wise, had a bad homemade lift kit and a few other issues. I felt kind of bad for him because whoever sold it to him pretty much got over on him so I decided to pay his full asking price knowing I could fix it up with my handy dandy welder! Since acquiring the golf cart I found this website which made me go down the rabbit hole of customizing it and now going the big block route 😳 😀
Here's some pics of when I purchased it and started taking it apart.. |

Re: Yamaha G2 Build! (Finally)
I had originally bought a 6" lift off ebay (cheap one) and the holes for the kingpins were way oversize so they wobbled bad..I gave in and went with the allsports 7" lift and 22" mud tires! Also made some stainless "mud flaps" a gas cap cover, and milled out my own rear lift brackets so I could use adjustable ATV shocks on the rear end

Here it is with the Allsports lift installed, then I reinforced the rear frame with some 1x2 box tube and welded a 1/4 plate to the underside with a 2" hitch from harbor freight. (Possibly going to mount a winch to the top of it over the back fender but haven't decided yet)

Re: Yamaha G2 Build! (Finally)
Bought some fender flares and made them fit ( to keep the dust down forgot to mention earlier I have 2" wheel spacers also) and now for the main topic..bought a new 18hp Vanguard! To make it a faster install I purchased the vegas carts install plate, angle correction brackets, a CVTech06 clutch, and made my own "motor hold down" brackets on the mill. The Vanguard I have has a step up on the base of the motor so my brackets will accommodate for it. Working on the install this weekend so more to come soon!

Got the motor all mocked up in place this morning. So to you guys that have done Vanguard swaps, I'm assuming this is like a mechanical govenor? Do you just take all this stuff off?

Nice fab work ! Yes get rid of all the gov/throttle linkage crap and run the accelerator cable to the carb with a custom bracket. I know you can do that. Try to get "positive" camber, when your in it it will "settle down" to zero.

Re: Yamaha G2 Build! (Finally)
Thanks I appreciate that! Do you run straight from the pedal to the carb or use the "stock" route going from the pedal to the governor linkage on the transaxle then to the carb? I've read people doing it both ways but can't find many pics to see which is better
