2001 TXT Rebuild
Hey guys, I am 100% new to golf carts. I picked up this cart for $150 pretty much sight unseen. Batteries were shot, so no idea of what works and what doesn’t. Because of this I decided to just strip it down and rebuild it. At twenty years old I figured it can’t hurt to replace several of these things even if they don’t need it.
Plan for cart: Complete new drive train (switch/solenoid/controller/motor/cables) New shocks and springs front and rear. (Still unsure if should go heavy duty or not). New steering boot (old one is completely torn) 22-23” wheels 5-6” drop axle lift kit Burgundy Titan body kit with LED lights Rear seat kit Custom seat covers 80” roof New dash Whatever else comes up during the build. Here are the pictures I received when asking if I want it and then the cart when it arrived to me. |

Re: 2001 TXT Rebuild
Cart is finally almost stripped down with a light pressure wash. Suspension just needs to removed now. Took me a few days with 30 minutes here and there. Several broken bolts, several had to be cut off with an angle grinder. Plan is to sand clean spots and wire brush rust and then coat in POR-15.
Anyone see any issues with rust around the brake and gas? |

Looks like we have similar builds going. Yours appears to be in good shape. Keep it up and post old ty of pics along the way.

Got the top of the frame painted with POR15 yesterday. Still need to do bottom and some suspension parts.

Re: 2001 TXT Rebuild
Started working on the rear end today. Started painted it in hammer black and it looks awesome. I cannot get one brake drum off. Any ideas or tips? I see this rusted pin like thing but no luck removing it or if that’s the problem. If I spin it, it gets tight in a certain spot.

Re: 2001 TXT Rebuild
I think I've officially given up on the brake drum. I cut it in half and still cant get one half off, in the process I messed up the threads. Probably will take it somewhere to take over the rear end.

Re: 2001 TXT Rebuild
Had someone out to the house - he replaced both axles for a great price. I learned this is an old DANA rear end from a Marathon and not a typical EZGO TXT one. The driver axle was welded back together at one point, and the passenger was f'd from the pin in the middle.
