re: 1968 Harley-Davidson DE
Bought her today for $237.50!
I love this thing, it came with the charger and a set of baby moon hubcaps. It runs too, but it's not firing on all solenoids. Does anyone know more about this drive system? It's not like the CC solenoid setup. There appears to be a solenoid for each forward and reverse, then three speed solenoids. From what I've gathered it's a 1968 model, if anyone knows more please share! |

re: 1968 Harley-Davidson DE
Thanks guys. Thanks for the diagram Stan. Yeah it was priced at $475, then the last day of the sale was half price, so $237.50 it was.

re: 1968 Harley-Davidson DE
Wow, who knew the wiring on this thing would be so compliated. It's nothing like the CC resistors. This thing is wired in two separate 18v banks, which the first two speeds run off of. Then the next two speeds run off of 36v. I am only getting 18v to the motor, still have to figure out what is causing that. I thought it was the 'A' solenoid, but I swapped positions with another and the cart acts the same. Now I am thinking one of the high amperage cables isn't hooked up correctly, or one (or both) of the diodes are bad. It may also be the circuit breaker, haven't tested that yet...
Five of the batteries are from 2012, and the oddball is from 2013. The charger that came with this thing makes a loud buzzing when plugged in, but the amperage needle does not move. Will have to look into that further. I've got it sitting in the garage now charging two batts at a time. I've also attached the service manual for reference. |

Not much help with most of that but I'll verify that those old Lester chargers typically sound like they are about to blow. I have some in my charger string for the dragster. They sound terrible.

Thanks Terry. It may be working then. Could just be the needle gauge...
