![]() Reference: 1979 2-cycle EZGO
I thought my solenoid was out so I put a new one on. Unless I wired it wrong it still doesn't turn over. (It will if I by-pass the solenoid) I see some type of micro switch down by the gas peddle rod. Could that be the cause? Is there a way to test my old 3-point solenoid? They new long body is 4-prong so not sure if that makes any difference. Thanks. |

![]() To test your old solenoid, you'll need a 12V power supply, battery or what have you and a test light or a multimeter set to the proper voltage range. You will run 12V positive to the big input lug on your solenoid and 12V negative to a metal part of the mounting bracket. Next with another wire you will run 12V positive to the trigger. If you hear the solenoid clicking you have the proper post. It will be one of the small ones. Next you will hook one end of your test light to the output side of the solenoid. The other big lug. You'll hook the other end to the metal mounting bracket. If the light comes on when you click the solenoid, it is passing voltage and it is good. If you have a meter, it will show approximately 12V when the solenoid clicks.
If there is no way to make the solenoid click, you can't get the light to come on when it clicks, or you can't get the meter to show 12V when it clicks, check your connections and try again. If it continues, the solenoid is bad. The microswitch can be bypassed for the purposes of testing if you like. Pull both wires off of it and connect them together. If it works this way then your microswitch is bad. Keep in mind while hooked up in this manner the cart will turn on and off with the key and will idle. |

![]() OK, after testing it looks like my old solenoid is bad. This old one is a 3-terminal and my new one is 4-terminal.
Not sure how to wire a 4-terminal vs my old 3-terminal? I can't even hear the new 4-terminal click. If I touch my positive cable to one of the two small terminals it will click......but not turn over after pressing gas. Any ideas? Also, can I rule out a bad forward/reverse switch since the cart turns over if I by-pass the solenoid? Thanks. |

![]() Ok, the 3 wire vs. 4 wire I'm not sure about. The only help I can offer is a diagram that will probably get you going.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...ring8qqll2.jpg What I did was print it out and go out with the cart. Then I sat there for awhile comparing the diagram and the cart for a while before I even made a move. Mine is an 88 but I'm pretty sure yours will be the same for the most part. The F/R switch should be ok since you can crank at all. |

![]() OK, I will do that and post if I was successful.
Thanks for the diagram. |
