![]() Hello All.
I replaced the seals on my '91 par car motor to fix an oil leak along with deleting the oil injection system. After doing so, I lost the pulse from the line that goes from the motor to my diaphragm fuel pump. I'm guessing I messed up a seal or something, but two new fuel pumps will not draw fuel. I decided to convert to electric. Heres the issue: In doing so the cart will run really well for about 30 seconds then floods and won't run. I purchased two different fuel pumps with the same result. What the heck am I doing wrong! I've seen so many threads that say electric is the way to go and I cant get it figured out! Pumps I've purchased: https://www.autozone.com/fuel-system...store_set=true https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PY7V2MM...fed_asin_title |

![]() My guess would be that the electric pump is too high a pressure. The vacuum/pulse pumps put out just barely more than gravity feed type pressure. Something around 1 to 2 lbs at most. The listing doesn't mention the pressure the pump is rated for, but 30 GPH is quite a bit for a golf cart. Think about how many DAYS of continuous running would it take to go through 30 gallons of fuel?

![]() A simple solution is to use a return line to relieve the extra volume. Most of us using the clone with electric pumps do this. Simply put a tee in the fuel line after the pump and before the carb. Then run a return line back to the top of the fuel tank. Works like a charm

![]() That Amazon pump's psi is right where you need it so that should be ok. The first thing I would do is to adjust the float down some so that the needle valve is stopping the flow of fuel earlier.

![]() I guess I didnt think about the 30 gallons per hour. I was strictly looking at psi.
I'll have to give the return line a try and see how that works! |

![]() One note I have here is every single electric fuel pump I used failed sooner or later other than the Facet 40105 I presently use. My torture test is to run @ 5000 + rpms for 2+ miles on a 90 degree + day. The Amazon unit looks like the E bay unit I used and the Edelbrock looks like Red Version of the Holley unit. There is a lot of detail in my pumps, pumps, pumps, thread. BUT we used one of the E bay units on Mr Chevy's Wheel Horse tractor after 2 of the camshaft driven replacements failed. It functioned fine in that case. The E bay unit would overheat and shut down where the Holley pumps just died never to recover. I see on the Edelbrock unit some of the reviews are similar to my experience.

![]() 2nd note. The Facet pump I bought on E Bay turned out to be an chinese clone. I had to file a claim to get my money back. Everywhere I looked I wasn't sure what they were selling. I eventually got with Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies to get a genuine Facet pump.

![]() So I went to get the cart from the course and I ran into another issue...
The rear tires are spinning in the opposite direction. I got it home and put up on jacks, charged the battery. When I crank it in the forward position, one tire spins forward, the other spins backward. If I put the key in reverse the opposite happens. A quick google search and in other cases people said the motor was locked up. I pulled the spark plug and the piston is moving in the cylinder so I don't think that's the issue. The cart is torn apart at the moment, I just put a return line to the tank and will reassemble tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this issue? |
