Default buying a cart with data plate missing

My neighbor is selling his EZGO cart and im interested in buying it. There is no data plate with the serial number on it. The cart has had some work done to it and he said when the dash was replaced it was never put back on. This was done by the guy that he had purchased it from. i have looked for the one under the seat and the steering column has been replaced. i have dealt with heavy equipment for over 25 years and usually it is stamped on the frame on equipment is there a place where it could be stamped on the frame?? i don't know my neighbor very well so and im torn on whether i should buy it or not. he said that he would write a bill of sale. he is telling me its a 2008 and is wanting 3100 for the cart. i appreciate your advice!!

Under drivers side fender, in the front should be a sticker by the frame if it's an 08.

My opinion is the tag missing is for a reason, they don't want you to know the year or it's been re-bodied. Why I like buying them in the stock configuration so you can get an idea of the hours on them, not lifted and re-bodied on a worn out cart. (not saying that one is)

Another thing you can check if it's a 2 cylinder Robins, whether it has a round or rectangle box air filter? I think they went to round in about 02 or so, same with a cast iron exhaust manifold verses exhaust pipe coming out of the head.

I wouldn't worry about a bill of sale I doubt it's stolen, none had titles that I know of.

Not a 2008, it's an older one as far as TXTs go, not a bad thing but sometimes look better than they are mechanically.

What does he want for it?

Not a 2008, what else is he lying about?, 2002 or older and needing a tune up scares me.
