No its a sealed bearing...At least I've never oiled one...I guess if it was hard to get back into the axle for some reason but I've never done that and haven't ever had one come back from not...

Thumbs up Re: Rear bearing removal

I always put a little grease are oil on it before reinstalling. I just did 2 axles in the past 30 days. 1 on customers cart and 1 on my 04 cart.

The hub trick works well for this job.

I have now pulled both axles. The reason is this cart sounds terrible rolling down the street. Figured a bearing was going dry or something. With the axles removed the bad sound remains. I’ll try and upload a video tonight. I’m thinking some differential work is coming my way.

How's the rear diff oil look? It may sound like rear end but actually be the motor bearing going out...a dead givaway is if there is oil and dirt caked under and around motor area where it connects to rear end meaning the input shaft o-ring is bad and has allowed rear end oil to seep into motor often killing motor bearing...another way to tell would be to take a large flathead screwdriver and put the blade side on motor cap near brushes and your ear on the other end and listen while running to where noise is loudest..motor or rear end...just a few things to check out...

My neighbor successfully greased his bearing for a little more life. Popped axle and bearing out. Very carefully popped the plastic “seal” off of bearing and stuffed it full of grease. Been quiet ever since.

Talking Re: Rear bearing removal

Video sounds like the input shaft bearing. Take the motor off and pull the snap ring out of the rear housing and pull the input shaft. Spin it and see if it's smooth. If so then motor bearing is only thing left.

Is there any way to get the crown nut off without an impact wrench?
