charger reads, check batteries, and limit use with new batteries!
Hello
My charger keeps lighting up with, check batteries and limit use even though I just put a new set of batteries in. It did the same thing before with the old crusty batteries, which I can understand, but not with new ones. Would it be the charger or is the car wired incorrectly? It's a 1991 DS with a lester model 14000 charger. Any way someone could point me in the right direction? Thanks Steve |

A 91 is pre OBC ..... so IF the batteries are wired correctly and the charger receptacle connections are good ..... that leaves the charger to suspect... can you try the charger on a known good cart? or borrow a good charger and try it on your cart? That will point out one or the other.

Yea that's a good idea to try another charger I think I know someone with one. I am in the middle of checking the wiring... Very closely!! I use this for my new job and am learning as I go along. If it was the charger would it need replacement or repair?
Thank you for your time. Great forum!! Steve |

I guess that depends upon whats wrong with it? Some get fixed ~ Some get replaced. Depends upon the costs of repairs.... You can cross that bridge when you get to it.

I took the charger apart and found that the electronic timer board has some burned spots on it. Not good. May be the problem.

Is it a lester? What model #? Can you post some pics of the burnt spots and the board.

If that is the Accupower charger with the colored lights on the end of that board not showing in the picture... I have bad news. That timer board lists for over $400
Maybe somebody else knows different? I would look for another used charger... |

Re: charger reads, check batteries, and limit use with new batteries!
Yea I was hoping I was looking at the wrong part!! I do see that there is a generic version without lights for about $120.00. I don't know if that's a good way to go either. What does a used one go for? I don't seem to see any like the one I have. I also see "other" chargers with the crowfoot plug on them and are rated with the same output. They seem to be around $300.00 on E-Bay. Not sure...

The charger you need is 36v with a crows foot plug. There are a couple of makers. Lester is good ... Some of them out there under $200 if you look around. IF you can't find anything PM me with your zip code.
Meantime don't let your batteries get too flat...... |
