Went from 18" tires to 23" tires - still have same top speed
I just lifted my 2001 Club Car series cart - serial AA0130. I went from the stock 18" tires to 23" tires. My phone GPS gives the same top speed before and after (11 mph). This was measured on a flat road with a full charge. Batteries are brand new Trojan T-875's. Shouldn't the top speed have increased by 23/18 to 14mph?

You increased the diameter of your tires and decreased the available torque to drive them, that could be your problem.

Did you upgrade with smooth tires or did you put on mud bog grade tires?

Re: Went from 18" tires to 23" tires - still have same top speed
I'm only using this in the woods, and I usually drive around 5mph because the terrain is so rough. I'm fine with the 11mph top speed. I was just surprised that it didn't go up a little. I'm more concerned that something else is wrong.
The reduction in torque is a little annoying though. I would like to get that back and more. I'm looking at options for that right now. Tires These are mud bog style tires that I'm running at around 7psi. I knew these would have more rolling resistance, but I didn't expect it to be enough to fully counteract the diameter increase. Alignment I installed the lift kit myself and set the toe-in to the recommended 1/2". Batteries and Wires I installed brand new Trojans this morning. This didn't affect anything. I got the same 11mph with the old and new batteries. I currently have 6 gauge wires installed. I have 2 gauge wires in the mail. |

You need more power (amps) maybe a 500 amp controller.

I recommend a higher amp controller, heavy duty solenoid, and heavy gauge cables to get your torque back.
