2000 PDS 48v conversion ?
I have a 2000 PDS 36v stock cart.
I'm converting over to 48v this winter and had a couple of questions. Other than a 48v controller, 48v HD solenoid, 2 Batts and heavy gauge wires and charger, do I need to replace anything else? Will the f/r switch handle 48v with no problems? I use this in a campground that is very hilly so I'm looking to gain some torque and not give up speed. Should the Alltrax DCX 400 PDS Controller be what I need for this ? By all the reading I've done here it sounds like it should be enough. Thanks |

Your F/R switch will be fine as no high current runs through it. Everything else you mentioned is correct. If your cart has a "fuel gauge" (digital or analog) it will also need to be upgraded to 48v.
You will gain lots of torque and speed with this new setup. |

I know this thread is old, but how did the conversion go? I'm looking to do this soon as well. Any other parts you needed to buy? Any estimates on top speed acheived?

Re: 2000 PDS 48v conversion ?
I gained about 9-10 mph and lots of torque with all of the stuff I put on mine. See sign.
I really didn't gain much speed or torque with the rear seat. |

Would a $265 Alltrax 24-48 volt 400 amp non programmable or NPX solid state speed controller (NPX4844/ITS) ITS throttle input work for this same application? What are the disadvantages? |

That controller has the wrong field map for your stock motor. It is programmed for that big motor only. Your cart will choke on all that amperage dumped into it at once. It has been tried

Re: 2000 PDS 48v conversion ?
Okay. I have a completely stock 2003 TXT PDS and I'm looking to do the 48V conversion for street/speed purposes only, with a possible lift in the future. What brand/type controller do I need to get the job done right?

Re: 2000 PDS 48v conversion ?
I have been running it 2 years now and it is sweet. I did go with the Altrax DCS 500. I have it programmed fo 80% power and I clocked 26 mph on stock tires and wheels with no lift.

Re: 2000 PDS 48v conversion ?
Jibba has a 500a controller turned down to 400a. You pay an extra $100 for the 500a over the 400a.... Not worth it if you are going to turn it down to 400a but, it is worth it if you are going to install a custom built motor down the line
I use an alltrax 400DCX controller and HD solenoid with 4 g cables. I sell this kit and it gets the carts to 24 mph with very good hill climbing on stock size tires. You can go 500a but you can burn up the motor in a stall situation or under extended heavy loads with that much available amperage according to the experts. So be careful and have fun The NPX controllers are rated as a stock replacement controller only.... They are not as rugged as their counterparts. |
