Default Wiring help Battery gauge

I am in need of a little help. I did a search but couldn't find anything. I have a battery gauge that has 2 posts on the back of it and I am trying to figure out how to wire it up.If any one can help me with any info I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot.

Determine which terminal on your keyswitch becomes hot when key is ON and tap into that terminal with one wire to the meter. Run a second wire from the second terminal of the meter to the main pack NEGATIVE terminal in the battery bay. If the meter needle goes the wrong way simply reverse the wires on the meter. Finished.

Thumbs up Re: Wiring help Battery gauge

It looks like there's a + above the left terminal in the picture. Beyond that I would agree with the previous post...

Thank you very much for the help. if you don't mind take a look at the diagram and tell me if I am understanding you. I understand that I might have to change the location of the wires. I think that I have it but a conformation would be great. Thanks again for the help.

That looks great as long as the Hot Terminal on the keyswitch means the terminal becomes hot when the key is turned ON. If you use the other side the meter will always be on.

Thank you for clarifying. So I am looking for the terminal that will become hot when the key is on and will not be hot when the key is off, correct? What would happen if it was wired to the terminal that is always hot? will it destroy anything or just be on all the time? If it is on all the time will it drain the battery pack?

That is correct.

If it were ON all the time it would not draw the pack down as those types of meters (analog) have virtually no amp draw.

OK I don't mean to become a pain in the butt about this but if I hooked up to a constant hot on the key then the gauge would alway show the battery pack state of charge. If it wont kill the pack then why would you not do this? Is there a disadvantage to doing this?
