Default Batteries or something else?

Alright folks: here's my dilemma. I bought a 2012 CC Precedent which was a gc fleet unit. The Trojan batteries all have E5 on negative terminal, so they are most likely 2015 set. Cart will run for about 5 minutes total before crapping out. Had to push it back after putting in tow mode. Battery voltages as follows: #1-8.21v, 2- 8.32, 3-8.15, 4- 8.24, 5- 8.13, and 6- 8.25 v. Total volts was 49.2. After charge just after it finished and charger showed zero amps, total battery volts was 54.3. While charging it was 56.8v. Are my batteries due for replacement or is something else wrong? Cart is totally stock right now.

There is a procedure for load testing while driving...you set your meter for 20vdc and attach the leads to each individual battery and drive the cart and watch how low the voltage drops for each battery...then record that number for each battery. If you are concerned about not making it home you can lift the rear wheels up and using jack stands perform the test without driving...you can lift just one rear wheel but do NOT do this test without a jack stand. I typically find the first battery (the main Pos) and the last battery (the main Neg) will drop voltage below all the others. This will prove that the batteries are bad. 😎

What voltage value am I looking for if they are good, or bad?

You need to charge your batteries until the charger automatically shuts off. Disconnect the charger from the cart. Most people say wait 24 hr and take a voltage reading. It should be 50.9 Volts. Plus or minus a tenth of a volt. Do that and let us know the results. What kind of charger are you using?

Voltage immediately after charger shut off was 54.3. It's a Lester PD3 charger.

You need to let them rest 24 hr and take a reading and compare it to this chart.

That battery chart is pushing the depth of discharge too low for a long and economical battery life. Most people agree that limiting your depth of discharge for lead acid batteries to 50% helps to maximize the battery life. Three factors really affect battery life namely; depth of discharge, number of cycles and battery maintenance. Lots of other factors too but I believe these are the main ones.

Have it look at the Carts Unlimited Battery Charts for more conservative depth of discharge recommendations.
