If the motor is locked up I think you should go ahead and get a plum quick bandit. Its $285. You'll pay close to the same for a used stock motor

This is as much my own question for all the electronics whizzes as one I have to try and help:

What are the procedures for testing the controller?

I'm just thinking out loud, but if the motor is locked up wouldn't it be good to test the controller and see if by chance it is cooked from trying to pass voltage to a motor that isn't turning?

Good point yellow club car, yeah if there is a test it would be good to know. Just got my motor off couldn't even spin it by hand but now it does. But yeah if the controller may be bad also I might as well upgrade that while I'm doing the motor. Thanks again.

I had an old motor in a melex that would not rotate. I took it apart cleaned it and new bearing and all is good. The bearing was relatively cheap.

Look on the Curtis web site for the manual for the 1204/1205 controller, it has a test procedure and complete wiring diagrams.

There is only one way to field test the controller.

Replace with known good. And then only if your ready for an expensive fishing trip.

Jjance,
Curtis has a test procedure for the 1204 and 1205 controllers in their manual. I don't know about other units, but that's what the OP said he has.

Well they do have a good test and calibration procedure on their web site. BUT it requires the use of the handheld CAN reader. Which they won't sell you or make it so expensive few can afford it. That is why if I ever upgrade to a new controller it will be an Alltrex. They allow access to their soft/firm ware via a windows home computer.
