Default tie rod inner ball joints.. is there a washer?

I am replacing my tie rods and tie rod ends. I just pulled off the castle nuts and removed the inner tie rod joints ..one had a washer (underneath the castle nut and one did not.. The service manual I am looking at does not seem to show a washer? Just the tie rod joints thread popping up thru the idler arm with a castle nut and cotter pin.. anyone know this? thanks

you don't need a washer. matter of fact, have never seen a tie rod end with a washer.
