Re: Club cars diiference in model years 2000 & up
As far as major changes go, in 2003 Club Car began producing the Precedent (replaces the DS) then around 2008 they started making the Precedent with a slightly different electrical system.
I own both a Precedent and a DS, and the Precedent is by far the superior cart. The DS looks more manly and rugged, but the Precedent has a nice flow to its design. The DS has been produced since the late 80's I believe, so a '96 would be a DS, and as far as I know, all DS's are the same regardless of year. The DS in my avatar is a '95. It will be pretty much identical to any other Club Car up until around 2003. I bought it 3 years ago and rebuilt it, and it was relatively simple (except for the fact many parts had been 'fixed' in a half-a** way by the previous owner). Given this, Precedents are hard to come by because they pretty much have to be bought brand-new (your looking at a couple thousand dollars), unlike DS's which can be easily found used (I managed to get mine for free because it was so badly broken). A '96 - '03 should be pretty easy to find and bring up to snuff from my experience. :) |

I would recommend 2003 and newer . . either DS or Precedent (your preference) . . newer units have the IQ system (programmable controllers), less maintenance headaches . . just steer clear of the units that have 4 12v batteries . . CC experimented for a couple of years and then went back to the 6 8v battery setup . .

ok, so '03+ have this IQ system, can you please explain what that does or how I use it or program it?
None of them are 36Volt? |

New to all of this also just bought a 04 club car that I would like to buy a chip for it but don't know what I have? Serial is AA0409-372230 I know it's 48V that's about it! IQ? DS? It has a purple plum quick motor. Lift kit and big tires. What would you do to this cart to help it pull in sand for hunting?

If you want Private Speed Mode it costs like $100 and you have to get it through Club Car. Quote:
A DS is the left cart in my avatar, the right is a Precedent. |

Accessories that are installed into a 48v cart should be running off of a voltage reducer/convertor . . . that way the entire pack is utilized to run the accessories, and not a single battery . . cost of reducer approx $70 . . .
