Default smoked wire

Well lets try this, I think I posted this in the intro forum. Woops my bad. Anyway I just bought my first cart, 91 36volt marathon. The guy i bought it from said this was the best forum, and he was right, this place is awesome! Ive gotta lot of info and help just from reading here. So last night I stupidly smoked the 2 wires goin to the voltage meter. What a stinky smokey mess. Luckly there was only a small fire and not a big one. Doesn't look like anything was hurt, but is there anything else I should check before I ruin something else? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to BGW.

Always check Blood Alcohol level before working on cart or posting on forum.

Basically an electric golf cart is an arc welder on wheels, so check for shorts and/or crossed wiring.

Do you have a resistor drive or a controller drive Marathon?
There are schematics for both floating around here.

Be careful.

I believe its a controller cart. As far as a motorized welder I couldn't agree more. Holy cow did that thing go up in smoke fast! Guess I have to drink more, that was my first beer, glad it was full to put out the fire in the dash! Lol

welcome to BGW cy. it helps a lot to disconnect one battery connection when working the things! a lot of people have found that to be true. there are other precautions you can also use, like draping a blanket over the pack and taping your wrenches. good luck with your new cart.

Good advice. Something I'm guilty of NOT following.
