Smile Replaced Carb car jerks on initial start then runs rich.

I replaced the carb with a new one. When I press on the gas the starter moter starts to run and I press a little more the cart jumps and starts running. This happens forward and reverse. Is there an adjustment for when the ignition spark starts during depression of the gas pedal? Can I expect to adjust the carb correctly with the air filter off (can't seem to get my hands in there with it on). Thanks for your help.

If the cart is jumping on take off, that sounds more like clutch engagement issue. Be sure you jack up the cart and use safety stands if your running the cart and diagnosing any issue. Just be safe.

Welcome, we need year and model number to do a good job for you.
You may have the cable to tight and the throttle opening wide before the switch on the peddle fires the engine.

Page 11-1 may fit your cart.

You're absolutely correct...it would help more if I had given the year and model...it's a 2000 Yamaha 16A. I did try to adjust the throttle cable and I also fiddled with the carb adjustment. I did not remove the plastic limit, I just moved it approx. 1/8th turn. Before I changed the carb the cart always smelled extreamly rich in mixture. It still smells that way plus it backfires. I will adjust the throttle cable back to where it was and see if it stops backfiring. On the carb....which way leans the mixture, clockwise or counter-clockwise. Should I try removing the plastic limiter and turning the screw futher? Also, is this screw an air adjust or fuel adjust? Thanks for all your help. I looked at the manual you sent and you guessed correctly...it's the 16A.
