Ok SC....What kind of "issues" will occur if this is installed on a 48-Volt system?

Ghee U-germ, the next time you have a tax question, Estate tax question or anything of that sort, just ask me. Go ahead and ask. I practiced in that area for 25 years. I give my advice freely now for what I use to charge $250\hr for. But..please ask. See what answer you get. DF

Congrats on a lucrative career, and I'm sure a lot of members appreciate your help. I take what I said back, my intent is never to insult any members. We joke around on BGW alot and I thought you were joining in the antics. I even checked your post count & join date before I posted to make sure you weren't a new member. My humble apologies Dave.

The only way for you to make this charger work is to switch your cart over to a 72v system. Likely needed are a new controller, motor, 12v reducer & new 72v battery pack. To read up on everything about big voltage carts head on over to the "Extreme DC" section on this forum.

But what would happen?
Short Answer: Best case; It will just ruin the battery pack. Worst case; your cart would catch fire during the night while sleeping - hope you don't park in the garage!

Long Answer: It would overcharge a 48-volt pack to very hazardous levels creating extreme heat in the process. It would start to boil the water inside turning water into hydrogen gas and evaporate quickly. Water levels would fall below the plates fast leaving high levels of sulfuric acid behind. Chucks of the lead plates will begin to fracture off and rest at the bottom of the battery where they will eventually begin to short out the cells. If it didn't melt your batteries it would certainly damage them and possibly much more "under the seat". Chances of a fire are high. Always use the proper charger designed for your systems AH capacity and voltage!

...ALL That being said, sorry we got your post off-subject SportCoupe!

Charger still available. Had a low-ball offer of $275 for this brand new charger. I'll keep it rather then loose $150.

Really, all you need is batteries and a 72v controller (and this charger of course). The stock motor will handle 72v for a short time until you can get a custom motor. I know cause I did it long ago. Just watch motor temps often.
