Default 2012 precedent- how to remove rear axle shaft/replace axle seal?

As the title states, and per my other thread, it appears one of my axle seals seems to be going bad. I could take it to the dealer I got it from and they should do it under warranty however that involves 3 hours round trip of driving, so I thought to just do the replacement myself and learn something.

Does anyone have a tutorial, pictures and/or instructions on how to pull the rear axle on a precedent (ours is a 2012) and replace the axle seal?

Thank you. 2012 is the excel drive system so I wonder if its different from the 2011? When the instructions in the pdf refer to using a "press" to remove the axle seal and adapter ring, it looks more like they are referring to a slide hammer.

I understand that it is good to learn about things but if the job can be done under warranty I would seriously consider it as it is then covered for any subsequent problems. 90 minutes each way is nothing, I used to do almost that every day just going to work.

If it wasn't a warranty job then it would be good to do it yourself.

While you have the tools out and your hands are dirty I would replace the other seal at the same time. They are around $4-$5 each.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. For now I am just going to monitor it as our dealer suggested but it's documented and if it gets worse they will cover it.

Did you check the fluid level to make sure someone didn't over fill it.

Unscrew the top fill plug, if any oil comes out it was overfilled.

The only way I can see overfilling it would be to lean the cart at an angle so you could poor more in than what is allowed.
