Re: Getting Ready for Hunting Season
A good friend of mine goes elk hunting just about every year. This past year he gave me a chunk of elk hide and elk knee for tying flys. The elk knee (after I shampooed it with Dawn) cleaned up very nice and had a great array of colors. Here's a pic:
And if you look at the flys on the upper right, these are all "elk hair caddis" flys tied with the elk knee he gave me. Of course, my friend will get his share of flys as well. |

Re: Getting Ready for Hunting Season
Hunting season is now over for us in Northeast Miss, and south central Tennessee... was not a good year. No acorns to be found, so the deer DESTROYED our food plots.. and travelled to other areas with large ag fields..
We have 5 food plots of about 1.5 to 2 acres each. 80acre of hardwoods, and 15 acre of just plain pasture... with two large hills sides and a natural spring creek. Only took one nice 8 pointer, and 3 does this past season.. Last season (2017-2018 ), we took 7 does, 6 bucks off the property, one giant 14pt, mid 160’s, one nice 8pt, low 140’s, and 4 scrub / cull bucks. Last year the woods were full of acorns, like walking on marbles....not so this year. |
