500amp controller and stock solenoid???
I'm converting my 88 EZGO 36v from resistor to solid state and just got a kit in.
Taking inventory, there was no HD solenoid??? Must have been a mistake... Can I use the stock solenoid with a 500 amp controller just to get it moving for now? |

Re: 500amp controller and stock solenoid???
Stock solenoid is 50-70 amp capacity ....... why would you have such a restriction in your supply line?
You need 200a for 500 control and 400a solenoid is best for 650-700a controls. Don't believe me? Go to Alltrax website and read their recommendations. |

Agreed. I even upgrade solenoid with stock controllers because it is such a restriction. It's fine for cruising the golf course but anything more then that stresses it.

Re: 500amp controller and stock solenoid???
You can, as a 700A controller doesn't mean it will now magically draw 700A from the battery. The rated current of a component is the maximum continuous current draw that would not cause damage. What this translates to is less power wasted in the controller circuitry, less heat, and more voltage to the motor.
The load of the motor doesn't change, but even a small increase in voltage passed to it makes a noticeable difference in overall power, as current draw increases slightly as well, and power = volts x amps. If you could pass 0.5V extra to a motor running on 35V, you would have about 3% increase in power. An extra volt would be about 6%. Back to your question, your cart isn't drawing anywhere near 700A. In fact, due to less loss in the controller, you get more voltage to the motor, so in the same conditions you would actually draw less current from the battery. If you're using the updgrades to push the cart harder, however, then you should upgrade the solenoid ASAP. ..a |

Re: 500amp controller and stock solenoid???
You should have received a 200a solenoid with pkg C52. If you did not send me an email with your name and order# and I will send it 2day mail today. My apologies.
