Yamaha G29 Drive bypass the Tow Switch and use ignition instead
I am using my Golf cart at a condo strictly for going down the road to the beach and hitting a few shops nearby. Roads are flat so there is no risk of the cart rolling off down a hill.
My problem is that a lot of family uses the condo and they forget to cut off the tow switch when leaving. I show up a month later and have to charge the cart back up before I can use it. What I would like to do is bypass the ignition wires (leaving them on all the time) and then setup the ignition key to work the tow switch wires. Effectively making the ignition key work as the Tow Switch. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? |

Your batteries will still run down just as fast if you have the run/tow switch on or off. FLA batteries self discharge pretty fast even if not connected.

The tow/run switch is there to shut down the controller. I find your idea of rewiring the key switch interesting. It may help but I don't know if it will solve your problem. What you should be doing before leaving the car sit for a month is plugging in the charger.

Re: Yamaha G29 Drive bypass the Tow Switch and use ignition instead
The G29 charger (at least the ones I have) will not charge if you leave it plugged in. It only resets when you unplug it from the cart. You can get a "Battery Tender" trickle charger that will keep the batteries topped up when you are away. I use them on my cars - I used to spend winters in Az and summers in Co leaving a car in each place. Your batteries will last a lot longer if you keep them fully charged when not in use.
