Default VC 625 - Question with Carb Tuning symptoms

Hi All,

I apologize for yet another Carb thread on this topic, but I just am looking for clarification on which jet i need to focus on for my symptoms.

Running the stock carb, i realize folks have added third party fuel/air screws and such for better tuning, but i'm hoping to do what I can without having to buy anything more.

I've drilled out the pilot jet by moving up 3 bits from what initally slid through the hole. Cart idles wonderfully at 1200 without dying. Takes a bit to start but after it's warmed up its fine.

What i'm looking to resolve with tuning:
  • When hitting the gas, it will hesitate and pop a bit. Running around quarter/half throttle is rought. Once it gets up to speed it is fine. Do i look at Mid and High Jets for this?
  • When pulling off the pedal quickly while crusing, it will sometimes die if I try to coast. If it doesnt die, it will give some backfire pops. Expand pilot jet some more?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

The idle jet has the epoxied in adjustment screw near the throttle plate. The main jet is located in the carb body within the fuel bowl. Is this what you enlarged and are calling the pilot jet ?

Sorry, was calling it the wrong thing. To clarify: Pilot jet = idle jet

Ive been basically going off of this carb tuning write up on VC's site.

Most of us work with the main jet. Some people enlarge it and some of us use the adjustable unit. IMHO the adjustable main jet is the best carb tuning device for these engines. I have dialed my pretty heavily modded VC 460 with both the VC 2 and 3 circuit carbs with this item. Interesting though I had not seen that info from VC and did not touch that area in either of my carbs.

Is this what you are referencing for the adjustable main jet?

No The one you would need comes from either NRracing or ECcarbs made for the clone carbs. I see it is in stock and $22 from ECcarbs. Part # 169F-43G390
