I agree with the clone swap, good little engine, easy to install, quietest of the big block options.

One thing.....definitely spend the extra $240 on the Comet 780 clutch!!! It will save you tons of time and effort, and....it will perform flawlessly. Perfect clutch for what you want to do. Money well spent.

I'm thinking like this:
HF420 $370
VC Comet 780 $240
VC Mount $180
VC Starter/Gen bracket $110
VC Pulley $80
VC Drive Belt $40
VC V Belt $18

Total $1037

That will give you an almost bolt in project. The little stuff like throttle cable, nuts and bolts, misc things will be up to you. Vegas Carts stuff is very well made.

You "could" make the mount yourself and save some bucks, but everything else you'll probably want to buy.

My 2 cents.

If stock performance was adequate, is your engine rebuildable? Are good quality rebuilds available? I'm not a CC guy.

I like this option. Seriously considering going this route. Thanks for the info. Found all that stuff online pretty easily.

Well...as I said, it was adequate until I added a backseat and began hauling additional adults around on the cart and now it seem underpowered. My carts both came with KF82 flathead motors that were discontinued in 1991. Many parts are either hard to find or expensive. Yes the engine is rebuildable, but I need a new crank and rod or maybe just a crank and rod machining. Ran great until it locked up.

I see with a coupon code #97280462 the harbor freight 420 cc predator is now $330. Another option is the Lifan 420 cc on sale from home depot for $302

Lifan is a good engine, that was the one I was going to use before I discovered Vegas Carts. If you're keeping it stock, the Lifan would be my choice of the two. $302 is a good price! Good eye Ray!

Hey I just realized you're in Canal Fulton....

I have a used Vanguard 16 Vtwin with the good aluminum rocker arms. I had it in my G1 before I got the 23hp version. Might be a good low cost option for you.

I also have a Vegas Carts billet starter/gen pulley.

Might have some other stuff, belts etc.

PM me.

Just remember the Lifan uses the UT-2 ignition system with the electronic rev limiter. If you want more rpms the coil must be replace with a $100 nonlimiting unit.

Hmm that's a good point. I didn't know it was electronic on that engine.
