Got the bug
I’ve been reading the posts here about the big block conversions for a couple years and finally just couldn’t take it any more. I built a 48 volt txt a couple years ago with help from the BGW forum. Custom wound motor and many upgrades. Electric cart that runs 27 mph. Love the cart, but feeling the need for real speed. Selling the electric TXT and starting a big block project cart. After lots of reading here I decided on an older club car ds. Found one (1990) 300 miles away with frame in great condition, body in fair and rod sticking through crank case. $200. It is now at my shop being completely dismantled and cleaned. First thing is lift kit. Double A arm 7 1/2 sport lift on the way. Looking at wheels and tires, disc brakes and high speed gears. Here is picture of cart as I got it. As thing progress I will keep pictures coming. I tend to overkill, so this should be one fast cart when done.

Re: Got the bug
Which motor are you thinking about using? 420 clone? Vegas 625? Vanguard? 670 Predator? Something else?

Re: Got the bug
Right now the 670 Predator with mods is in the lead.

Re: Got the bug
Pulled out carcass of blown up stock motor and pressure washed. Next is degreaser and pressure wash again. Waiting for lift kit and front disc brakes.
Pictures of before and after motor removal and pressure wash. |

Re: Got the bug
Money wise if on a budget a new engine and cubic inch the 670 would probably be my choice if money wasn’t an issue it would be a 23hp vanguard for me
Also performance parts are available for the 670 now |

Re: Got the bug
I have watched Redbeards videos. Impressive. I have been looking at Performance 670. They build and Dyno tune Predators. 43 hp and 50 ft lbs torque. This motor is in the lead for the job at this time. Sport lift kit is ordered and 6 to 1 gears for rear end. When these are installed Jakes front disc brakes will be next. Motor will be about the last Then the body. I plan on a lot of pictures and documenting this build. I’m sure I will have questions for the experts here as I go. Particularly when it comes to the clutches.
If anyone thinks of any reasons I should do something different as I go, I welcome suggestions. I may or may not go with them, but I welcome them and will give them serious consideration. |
