Default Leaf battery temp during charging ?

I don't recall seeing any post concerning what the temperature(s) of a leaf battery pack rise to during charging.

In previous charging to my leaf pack the ZEVA temp gauge usually shows about a 6 degree "hotter" than the ambient temperature at the time.

Yesterday I charged the pack while the temp was 88 degrees and at the end of charging the pack temp showed 94 degrees. Now, I placed my hand on top of the pack and it felt slightly warm.....but not excessively warm.

I think this is "normal" for the pack temp to rise above the room temp.....and I'm not alarmed about it, but I thought I'd toss out this subject should anyone else care to "toss in" their experiences of lithium charging details about heat.

Mine does the same.

Temperatures are naturally going to go up while charging and also while being discharged.

mine does the same. I also check mine after a few miles of a cart ride, and I’ve never felt the pack or the cables much warmer than the outside temp.

I suppose when charging it depends on how many amps you are charging at.

It depends on the chemistry of the cell, but typically cell manufactures will list maximum temperature which is around 60-80degC (in my experience) before there is concern of thermal runaway. Not sure where the ZEVA temps sensors are located but I would give yourself some safety margin as the real cell temperature is likely above what is being reported.

I placed my ZEVA temp sensor in the middle of the 14 module pack.

I suppose if one of the module's were to get too hot, the ZEVA would not "know" this....but I still like the idea of a temp sensor.

A better option would be to have a sensor in-between each module.....but that wasn't possible with the ZEVA.
