Default 2008 CC Precedent 4 12s to 6 8s

I have a 2008 CC Precedent and am looking to convert from 4 12s to 6 8s. In looking at the many pictures on this site, my 2008 doesn't have the "center divider" that some others have and mine is the silver one on under the seat with the run/tow switch. 3 questions. 1. Do I need a conversion kit, because it looks like the 6 8v batteries will fit as it is? 2. Does anyone have a simple cable diagram for the battery cables? 3. What gauge wires do I need? Thanks

Your cart is late 2008 - sometimes called 2008.5
You can pull some dividers from the battery box and buy some OEM 8v battery hold-down hardware from David at Revolution on this link. Call him - he will know exactly the inexpensive bits and pieces needed to convert. Your conversion is hassle free and cheap/easy to accomplish.

1) You might choose to upgrade your cables to 4 ga. Its optional - but your cart will be happier. You have to replace all of them (incl the ones to the motor) however, not just the ones between the cells to get the benefit.

2) Battery pattern - I've seen a clever battery configuration on this site somewhere - if you search you should find it. The pattern prevents wires from crossing over your filler caps. Very convenient - but you'll need a custom lengths cable set to use it I think.

The stock battery arrangement on the new precedent is the most efficient:

You can also see the 2 new battery holders you need to purchase.

If you are not making your own 4ga cable set, make sure to use a stud to connect the new negative cable through the OBC.

VERY helpful guys - perfect picture Sergio. I have read some items about changing the OBC, do you guys think I need to?

Thanks!

That question is well-outside my pay grade! But I seem to recall the consensus view from the more astute folks on this forum concluded it wasn't really necessary.

Thank you again. I will call David at Revolution. After reading several posts, he is VERY knowledgeable about Club Car mods.

In case You did not get your answer yet, OBCs built after January 2008 will work fine with the 6x8v battery setup.

What's different about those built before?

Good question, perhaps David knows more details, but it appears the earlier versions were more specific to the physical type of batteries being charged.

Even though You have 24 cells either way, the 12v batteries had a more specific algorithm, the newer OBC versions must have a more adaptive algorithm.

That information about the OBC comes from Club Car's 4x12v to 6x8v conversion kit.

If you run the old 12V OBC with 8 volt batteries you won't get a complete charge. It's the whole algorithm thing.
