![]() I bought this Melex golf cart off the lot a few years back when it was running.
![]() About 4-5 years ago the engine **** itself and since it was such an older model cart, there was basically no way of fixing the engine. A buddy of mine has this old honda trx 200sx 4 wheeler. We are currently taking the engine off my cart and putting in the 200sx one. I can't wait for this project to be finished. I'll post pictures as we go. It's at my buddies house so I can't take pics of the engine and everything else at the moment. Were also putting the tires that was on his 4 wheeler on my golf cart, gonna be fun! If you were wondering why it looks so shiney is because it was at my uncles house and he painted it without asking me.. He did a crappy job, were going to repaint it. ![]() Our plans are to paint it camo style and put in a radio. We also have to rig up a few things like a shifter and figure out some way to make it go. The old engine was belt powered and the engine were putting on it is chain driven.. I'll update the thread as we go. |

![]() If it is a 4-stroke, I need the original carburetor. Is it still working?

![]() Melex 412 engine is a 9hp vanguard Briggs model so its not hard to rebuild and parts are readily available!
Just replaced rings on mine and took care of the smoking. These engines are tough - Bulletproof almost. Steel sleeved pistons, alum head, and only weigh about 60 lbs with the crank pulley on. Unbolt it, lift it out, and without air tools you can have it tore down to the crank, in 30 minutes pretty easy. The way they are set up you should be able to swap about any horizontal shaft engine for the 9hp if you wanted to. |

![]() Hi guys, got tied up... for years lol...
Anyways, I'm back and I never got around to doing this still. I am currently rebuilding the carb on the 200sx motor and trying to fix the nightmare of a thing i guess you could still call it a wiring harness. I'm getting the motor sized up and welded into the golf cart thursday july 3rd. However, I was just thinking of something.. the sprocket I have laying around that I was going to attach to the gear box on the golf cart is like a 14tooth sprocket. I was thinking it might work because the gear in the gear box might make it still have power and speed. Anyone know anything about the gear box and if this will work. ![]() |
