Re: Got the G1 with ATV suspension done!
Update:
I replaced the front shocks with stock front KYB shocks from a 2016 Yamaha Wolverine UTV. They are beefy sob's lol! They are definitely stiffer than the 400ex front shocks, and a few inches longer. So once mounted in there, the front end is fully extended at max ride height. This creates a problem with the steering geometry that I built into the front end. The suspension was designed to have about 40% sag with the 400ex shocks and now with the bigger shocks there is 0% sag lol. Bad. The steering is binding and the ride sucks. So I'm going to have to raise my upper shock mounts to get the ride height where I want it. The suspension action seems like it will be fine once I get the ride height correct. More to come soon! |

Re: Got the G1 with ATV suspension done!
Update:
I removed the UTV shocks, they were way too stiff and long. I replaced them with a set of good used rear shocks from a Grizzly 660 atv. Length was much better and the springs were perfect rate. Ride and steering was much better. I'll make note of this for future builds. |

Re: Got the G1 with ATV suspension done!
Yeah I actually sold the G1 cart last year in favor of an 84 Mustang GT. I got the suspension dialed in just before I sold it lol. I do miss that cart. I put a ton of work into it.
But, I do have a G16 sitting in my shop that desperately needs a long travel front end.....as well as an engine....some clutches....a transaxle housing swap....some paint and body work....some wiring....some wheels and tires.....ugh.....let's just say it needs everything. At least I have a plan |
