Did I screw up this simple LED headlight install?
I just installed an LED light kit in my 36v DS. Taillights work great, but when I initially tested the headlights, they only flashed (more of a quick blink, really), but they didn't stay lit.
The illustration in the instructions shows positive to battery one and negative connected to battery 6 in the series. This indicates to me it works off the full 36v. What's odd, and what I'm concerned about, is a reference to 48v systems in the instructions that says, "a voltage reducer is required to reduce the voltage to 12v.". Furthermore, the title on the first page says, "Light kit installation instructions for DS (12v).” So, I'm confused. I know some LEDs will work off a full 40v+, but their diagram and wording seem to contradict each other. Since I wired it as shown in their illustration and the headlights don’t work, I'm a little worried I may have damaged the LED headlights. I thought this would be plug-and-play, not plug-and-pray. Is there a way to test them with a multimeter to see if they’re ok? |

Very possible that the diagram is telling you where to hook up a reducer. Lights are probably 12v and when given 36 they went poof.

I think for 36 volt carts, they were supposed to be connected to battery 1 + and battery 2 -. This would give you 12 volts. That diagram is not right and caused your problem.
Of course, whether 36 or 48 volts, a reducer is the best way to go. If that wiring diagram was the one they sent, I would contact them for free replacement. |

They went poof, sorry.
This is from the ad you linked on Amazon. They need a reducer, or only hook them to 2 batteries. |
