2017 Drive2 audio install
I was tired of weak Bluetooth portable stereos not having enough volume or kick - and worrying about someone swiping the portable if my kids left it sitting on the golf cart while running into a store, so I decided to convert some money into noise.
For the front stage I custom built cubby enclosures that hold some JBL 4" coaxial speakers. For rear fill I did another custom enclosure fitted between the front and rear seat backs that hold a pair of JBL 6.5" coaxial speakers. Enclosures are painted with bed liner so im curious to see how they hold up to Florida gulf coast humidity and moisture. My cart never really sees rain so I doubt the speakers will get wet. If they last 2 or 3 years I'll be happy. These are all powered by a PPI i520.4b Bluetooth amp that is hidden in the dash. I'll post some updated pics once I get the sub amp and finish off the amp mounts in the dash. I also added an aux battery to power just the stereo. Just a simple 105ah deep cycle battery that I got at Walmart for $75. I also hooked up a small 4amp dedicated charger for this battery. I should have plenty of run time for my needs. Next up will be a second mini amp and a 10" sub that, unfortunately, will possibly need to live in the bagwell storage area. My original intention was to keep this installation as stealth as possible. Anyone that walks up to the cart currently will not notice the speaker install unless it's pointed out, or they hear it. I wanted to hide one 8" sub installed in an open battery slot, and I still might, but I don't think it'll give me what I'm looking for. There is also a spot up front, directly in front of the foot test, that I could hide a second 8" sub but the enclosures would be a pain to build. And again, not sure a pair of 8's will suffice with the available air space I can work with. Which leaves the bagwell to give me a touch over 1cuft finished air space. So, it's still a work in progress but I'll update as I add more. The main reason I went this route is because it still functions just as easily as a portable Bluetooth speaker, just better. |

Re: 2017 Drive2 audio install
It's been a while since I created this post and I've made some major changes to the stereo on this cart. I have since added a Sundown sub amp and I'm using that to power two 8" old Kicker CVR8's that I had in the attic. I had built a sub enclosure that went in the bagwell area and attached to the rear seat for support. I was never really all that happy about using the area under the rear seat because it wasn't hidden and it took up available "trunk" space
While working through some other major issues with this cart I had several months with a non-working cart. So I took advantage of the time and the fact that I upgraded to lithium to completely redo the entire system. Everything has been rewired, amps moved and built a new sub enclosure. The only thing that remains from the original setup are the front speaker pods hidden in the dash and the rear speakers hidden between the front and rear seat backs. Everything is now totally concealed and you would never know there is a full system installed until it's turned on. The sub looks like there is no room between the Eco Battery or the onboard charger but it's just the angle of the pitcure, there is plenty of room between everything and the charger gets plenty airflow for cooling. Battery life has been fantastic with the 105ah lead acid battery that is dedicated to the stereo. Zero regrets for going dedicated battery. It's no trouble at all to charge another battery. And I have onboard chargers for the main pack and the stereo battery, so I can charge anywhere if needed.
