Exclamation 2008 St Sport II Lift Question

Hey Guys. I'm new here, but I must tell you all that I love this forum. I'm a member of quite a few different forums, and this is by far the coolest. It's great because I feel like I am getting to know many of you just by reading your posts, and, even though I don't post often, I read A Lot and I want to thank everyone for their help. Not often do you find a resource such as BGW where there are knowledgeable people willing to share and contribute.
Now for my question. I have a 2008 St Sport II that I recently installed a 6 inch spindle lift on. I bought my cart new, and only had about 40 hours on it until this past deer season when it replaced my 4 wheeler as my main trail companion on the hunting club. Windshield,roof, and seat back are great in the cold, rainy weather, lol. I wanted a little more ground clearance so I figured I'd put some bigger tires on it. Anyway, my cart came with 20 inch tires, and a guy on ebay sold me a set of 12 inch ITP rims and 23" desert duros very reasonably and said they would work on my cart with no lift. I foolishly didn't research this and went ahead and made my purchase with my faith in his knowledge. Needless to say, they wouldn't fit, and I called him with my complaints. After providing pictures to the guy, he sent me the lift for free. It is made by Rhox. Install went ok, and I got some great advice in the lifted carts forum here. My problem is the lift seems to have lifted my cart a good bit more than 6 inches with the new tires. I recently changed oil to mobil 1 synthetic, and when I took the oil filter off to drain, I only got about a quart of oil out. I said,"that can't be right, it was full", so I jacked the rear end of my cart way up and the other half quart came out. I reinstalled the filter, measured the oil carefully, and filled her up. I am only getting maybe an eighth to three sixteenths of oil on the dipstick now. I know from reading on here that the full mark would be less with the lift, but is this lift too much? I installed the kit from CPP to make the cart run with the keyswitch, and when I let the cart sit and idle, it spits just a fine mist of oil/gas looking mixture out of the exhaust. I need some help here. I don't want to tear my motor up. Should I lower the front of the engine. Is it possible that I didn't get all the oil out of the engine when I changed the oil, and I am just a tad overfull? Thanks for your time and response, and sorry for the long post. I am just trying to give all the information at once.

I’m sorry I can’t provide more specific information for your situation, but here is some food for thought. The most important thing to KNOW is that your oil pickup is still completely submerged ALL the time, including starts and stops where g-forces may move the oil. As far as the level, you can calculate the change in indication on the dipstick by doing the math on the rotation of the engine to the fluid level line. As far as oil in the exhaust, this is concerning. Are you getting a blue tinted smoke? If not, I’ll bet the fluid is just darkened by deposits in the exhaust system. If you get oil in the combustion chamber, you’ll have blue smoke.

Rather than lowering the pivot end of the cage, I would see if there is a way to rotate the engine back to level on its mounts. I have no idea if that is possible having never seen the setup, but that’s what I would think off the top of my head.

Thanks for the help. I think you're right about the fluid not being oil/gas as I had stated. I had a chance to work on the cart a little yesterday, and the fluid coming out doesn't have any smell or thickness to it. I'm not getting any blue smoke, and it only spits the fluid out when I first crank it up and let it warm up. After running it for about an hour yesterday, I parked it and let it idle, and there was nothing coming from the exhaust. I think maybe it is condensation from sitting being colored from the deposits in the exhaust like you suggested. I've done a lot of searching, and I can't see where anyone recommends adjusting motor height with a six inch lift. My cart just lifted overall about 8 inches with the tires, but after realizing you can't take into account the height of the tire increase in the lift, I decided to run her for about 3 hours yesterday total, and I guess if she was gonna blow or seize, she would have. Motor ran fine, sounds good, and had plenty of power. Thanks for the help!

rocknrone, mine spits out the black stuff first start in the morning too. Nothing after that. How you liking the lift so far? Will be needing one myself soon.

Taz, I love the lift. Lotta ground clearance, and 5 more mph top end. It'll run 26 with the gps now, and the tach says I'm only turning around 2900-3100 rpms. I could probably get a little more out of her with the governor, but I don't want to go any faster.

I lined the front end up finally on it yesterday. Tow in was 9/16 after putting the lift on, and it drove terrible at high speed. I set it to 1/16" yesterday by adjusting rod between the ball joints, and it drives much better now. My new question is how do I straighten the steering wheel out now? It is turned about about a quarter of the way to the passengers side with the wheels straight. Do I loosen the tie rod end and adjust the steering linkage there, or can I just take the steering wheel off and adjust it there? I tried the steering wheel option, but when I got the nut off, the steering wheel wouldn't budge, and I didn't want to screw it up or break it without asking first. Is there a trick to this? Or should I adjust the steering linkage at the tie rod end?

What engine did you end up with in your 08? I have seen both twin and the single cyl Kawasaki. If it's the Kawasaki then yes lower the front of the engine. Without a wheel puller and if you are carefull, Put the nut back on untill the threads of the shaft are just less than flush with the nut, Position yourself so you can pull up on the wheel with your knees while hitting the nut square firmly and gently. :)

I have the Subaru/Robins 350, one of the last I was told. Thanks for the tip on the steering wheel.

i usually loosen the nut on the wheel and hit the bottom of it with a rubber mallet. it works every time.

As far as lift. your car already has a 2" lift from EZGO. so adding a 6" lift you now have 8" over a standard cart. When I lift my spt II, I install jakes 3" lift. IMO it looks much better with it sitting closer to the tires. I have run 23 or 22 on them w/o issues.

But some 22" tires will fit on them w/o a lift.

I sort of like the big tough look of my cart. I get a lot of compliments, but to each their own. I appreciate the info, and now I know why my cart sits so high. Do you or anyone else think that this is too much of an angle for the motor? 8 inches? Also, has anyone put a rear folding seat on one of these ST Sport II's and which one do yall recommend? I should probably start a new thread about this last part. Thanks a lot for the input guys.
