Default Legalizing Carts in North Carolina - Need Ideas

Hey All, I'll try to keep this short...

A few weeks ago I started trying to legalize golf carts in my town of Lenoir, NC. The state already allows for it but it is up to each city or town to accept it and can modify the ordinance to suit their needs.

The city Council and department heads met yesterday and were kind of split down the middle - half kind of for it, half kind of against it. They asked the Chief of Police to create a sample Ordinance and to do some additional research on how to do it safely in our town.

Here's my problem or challenge...

I am just one person asking for this. I need to get more people requesting this from the town Council members. I have contacted local golf cart businesses to see if they have customers and/or friends in my town who would like to use their carts. I also contacted local golf courses.

Can you guys think of anyone else I can, or should, contact to try to get them involved?

Any environmental organizations in your area will usually have lobbyist or support staff to attend mtgs and try and use literature to support this. It keeps automobiles (CO emissions) off the street if people are using carts to shop, bus stops, general short travels, etc.

Good idea - I'll look into it. Thanks!

A major advantage of having Golf Carts, bicycles and scooters on city streets is that it has a calming effect on traffic. Thus making it safer for everybody in the community. You could try using that as an argument.

I'm in the same boat when it comes to having carts on my small town. my next town over has a permit to drive them on the street, which is Rose Hill NC. I'm in Teachey NC and its only me asking the town for them to at least give me a reason why they dont want carts on the street. I dough this small towns are going to listen to me, and be able to change their rules.

Another group to tap is geezer villages, especially those with golf courses.
All sorts of regs for such ordinance. 16 or older, with drivers license, top speed limits, required safety equipment.
Hours of use.
Most regs only allow use in specific neighborhoods and at speeds of less than 20 MPH.
Unfortunately, North Carolina's onerous zoning laws almost require a car.
NC once allowed reg of ATVs. We converted a lot of Kaw Bayou 300s due to their differential. Registered as motorcycle.
The state suddenly stopped the approval.
Probably Automobile Dealers Association behind that.
Florida has common golf cart laws that you could maybe blend to your wants.
Good luck!
