Default General question about golf cart ground wire

My 1987 electric CC DS is not grounded to the frame, I was wondering if / why all golf carts in general do not use the frame as a common ground like cars do ?

Safety. If the frame were used as a ground and became compromised, when you got on the cart YOU would become the ground.

PS- Also circuits could be miss-routed.

Electric vehicles Don't ground the power system to the frame for safety reasons.

48 volts with all the amps of 6 batteries will light you up big time. Don't ever try holding one hand on pack neg and the other on pack pos. It very well could kill you dead.

There are two safety issues. One is shock - Yes 48V is dangerous. The other is high current discharge if you create a short. Both are reduced by not grounding the power system. Most electric cars and Hybrids are running over 300V so they are very dangerous. They are required to have a disconnect that first responders to an accident can hit to isolate the battery system in the event of a crash.

The system us called an isolated ground and it's not uncommon in higher voltage systems that have a high amp potential...FYI...the Hybrid safety disconnect is always located in the trunk.

Interesting, thanks for the answers .. I wasn't thinking about the high amp draw angle, good point, so even if "earth" ground doesn't affect a DC circuit there is still a possibility that someone could become the circuit ground IF the battery ground itself was lost and the batteries and frame got wet (to complete the circuit) a person could become the conductor that completed the series circuit to the motor ... better keep a closer eye on my cables ;) Thanks all

Not always. Depends on the vehicle. For example, on a Chevy Tahoe, the disconnect is under the passenger side second row seat.

Nissan Leaf It's on top of the battery I believe which is under the passenger seats.
