increase voltage
I have a 2007 Ezgo TXT series on 36V with AXE4855 controller with a 400/1000 amp solenoid our campground is having golf cart race this weekend and I want to know if I can install another 6V battery and run on 42V or 48V without any issues with controller. Bought the set up from Scotty B

YES!! I run my 4855 on eight T-105s with no problem. I'm not sure about your solenoid, and you need the ability to charge, but if you have the cables and space (bagwell) you should win.

solenoid is a HD 400/1000 amp, also have 2ga welding cables for cables. Thanks for the help

Even if you have upgraded cables, using the old cables for a temporary upgrade will give you more benefit than detriment.

YES, but you will need to proper sized resistor across the top of the solenoid. Yours has a 220 omh resistor, and you will need to pot a 470 omh resistor in its place. that is all you need to change to run either 42v or 48v......and of course a way to charge your cart.
I ask this very question of ScottyB when I was upgrading a while back, he told me that the only thing I needed to do was change the resistor. |

Question to the OP. Is your upgrade limited to one weekend?
Question to the experts, does the resistor need to be upgraded for a one weekend drag race? Seems like it may get a little hotter when they key's on and no throttle is being applied, but they're ceramic wire wound resistors, so they might can take a little short term abuse, no? |

If it is only for the weekend, just take the resistor off if it gets hot.
If you are going to continue running at the higher voltage, replace it with the correct value. |

I have a non-buggy ceramic "wire" wound resister that routinely gets red hot, and it's quite happy, long as you don't touch it.

For right now its only for a weekend drag race, maybe 4 or 5 runs 60 to 70 yrds. Should I just take off the resistor
