Default 84 ds brake blocks and hill brake

Well I was doing some brake adjustments and noticed the drivers side brake block was broken and there was a broken spring on the passenger side that is on the rod of the pedal. I have found the blocks no problem but every brake diagram I look at does not show this spring. I have not been able to lift it up yet and see if it is self explanatory or not. Still I cannot find one picture that shows that spring, any help is appreciated.
