Default Key switch turns off headlights

Does anyone have an idea on hooking headlights to key switch on 2005 precedent cart?

key switch is 48vdc, lights usually 12vdc. several ways to get around that.
a. some light kits are 12-48vdc
b. Get a 2 pole type key switch like the ezgo 4 spade
c. use a 12 to 48 converter with an activation wire
d. wire in a relay
and i am sure there are many other options, depends on your budget

As LabRat says there are several ways. My preference would be to hook up a relay and you would use the T9AP1D52-48 general purpose 48V relay. This is available from many suppliers but Mouser Electronics have it for just a few dollars. The attachment shows the connections.

If your headlights work via a headlight switch then simply take the positive (probably 12V) from that switch and connect it to pole 30 of the relay. Then connect another similar gauge wire from 87 back to the headlight switch (where the other wire came from). Run a new wire from the "cold" side of the key switch (the one that only has power when the key is on) to pole 86 of the relay and another new wire from pole 85 of the relay to a negative point on the loom.

What happens is that when the key switch is on 48V will run through the relay to the -48V you have connected to the loom. This switches the relay on and allows the 12V to go to the headlight switch. If the headlight switch is on the lights will work. When the key is off the lights will go off no matter what position the headlight switch is in. If you want the key on but the lights off just turn the headlight switch off.

I have a similar relay to operate my voltage reducer and I have mounted it where there is room near the back of the key switch in the dash.

Bruce is right, Relays are one of the best options, IMHO just a baby solenoids. Recently we have been using the 12vdc-48vdc light kits with great success.
I did not know that Club Car was available in Australia, i would have guessed that Yamaha had that market. Learn something new every day.

You have to use a relay. The key switch power comes from the controller and trying to hook up lights directly to that circuit can kill the controller.

Use a 48-12 voltage converter that has a key switch turn-on. Or use a relay as suggested above.

No thanks given. Is this one of those trolls who just ask a question and then disappear? It just wastes your time in answering.

Bingo Bruce. Thanks for having the balls to say something I wish I could say.

There are experts and great advice in here that are often superior to the engineers who designed these things. Having said that, I'm not picking on this particular poster.

However, one would think that when one of our experts takes the time to ponder a particular question, or answers in detail something most cart shops have no clue to answer, that person would at least offer a follow-up and express his/her gratitude.
