Default Static Charge Buildup

Silly question:

After painting my G16 a year+ ago in base / clear, I routinely wipe it down with with spray wax/cleaner (in between rounds at the drag strip). This thing has more static electricity built up in it that the dust and dirt just clings to it! The more you wipe - the worse it gets. What is the secret - attach a ground wire and let it drag on the ground, use a special spray, what.....

Hmmm good question. I do remember that some of the cars in the 80s and 90s had factory ground straps that would hang from the back of the vehicle. They looked like a rubber strap but not sure what they were made of. Now whether it worked or not is a different question.

I remember when every one had lucky auto plastic seat covers and theh to hang a ground strap to stop getting shocks when geting out of the car.

I always hold on to the vent window frame (metal) when I get out of the truck on cold dry days. It prevents the zap!

Yep, this thing lights me up when I'm wiping it down. It's more of an annoyance, perhaps I've wired the stereo system or light package wrong.... I'm about to add 2 more speakers this weekend, so I'm expecting a bigger 'zap' next time I clean it! :)
