Ezgo TXT Freedom mode

I have a 48 volt, 2017 EZGO TXT with Samsung lithium ion batteries ( not sure if that matters or not) that I purchased used from a golf course and it is slow. I believe they have turned the speed down. I spoke to a local golf cart dealership and they where saying that I had to have headlights and taillights installed in order for them to put it into freedom mode. Is this something that has to be done or they just trying to make more money off of me? If that is a setting it looks like they could bypass that in the settings. Thanks in advance

Controller has nothing to do with the lights.. That said as your cart has the Samsung batteries it might take a special programmer to program.

They made it sound like something in the programing when they hook the laptop up would not let them turn it on without the headlights and taillights hooked up. Do you know if you can buy the software to turn it up yourself or if you have to have a dealers lic?

If it has to have lights I would be shocked. I am not familiar with the Samsung setup on the txt but I believe on the rxv is a different animal than the standard controller. If it does turn out to be the standard setup a laptop with the correct software and a special built cable will allow someone to turn freedom mode on.

In some ways I wouldn't be shocked do to all the safety now days. Im guess they figure if you have the speed turned up you are planning on using on roads. I was just wondering if anyone had done this and just bypassed it. Thanks

Well Curtis figured out that people were building cables that would allow people to logon to their controllers in developer mode which would allow them to turn on freedom mode without using the dongle you had to pay for. They since have changed their code to require an unlock code to prevent corrupting the controller. Yours I just don’t know but someone smarter should come along that will know.

Honestly their price is not to crazy. They want $450 to install headlights/taillights and put in freedom mode. I was just being a cheap skate and hoping that I could find a cheaper way.

Welcome to the addiction!! But I am thinking that is pretty steep unless it is the full street kit with turn signals and brake lights.

Is it possible the cart shop you contacted is a Yamaha dealer? I ask because Yamaha requires the cart to have lights (PTV) to set the speed to 19+mph.
Maybe they didn't realize you were talking about an EZGO. Just a thought because this is the first I've heard about EZGO requiring lights to unlock "freedom mode".
