TXT Stiff as Hell
Hey everyone, I just read every single shock post and still couldn't get the info i needed. I just lifted my 97 TXT with an Steeleng 6" kit and 22" tires. I thought what the hell, lets replace the shocks with coil overs for a more rugged look and hopefully a better ride. Well I was sooo WRONG. I bought the only coil overs available on buggies unlimited for a TXT, so you all know which ones those are. Does anyone have the same issue i came across? My cart is soooo stiff its like i have 2 by 4's as shocks. I get so much bounce its crazy. I can't even have anyone sit in the back its so bumpy, even driving it I get thrown everywhere. I see some posts about the monroe shocks 31069 and might go that route. Just wondering what everyone did to get a level cart and a nice smooth ride for shock replacement. I am unsure on the leaf springs and if they are heavy duty or not, it does have 3 leafs???? Really need to correct this so i can make the family happy and stop getting the stink eye from the wife.
Thanks so much for any info |

Re: TXT Stiff as Hell
I converted my Club Car from lead acid to lithium....and it removed about 300lbs of weight. For months I had to deal with a stiff suspension.
A few weeks ago,I removed the shocks altogether leaving only a the single leaf springs. MUCH BETTER. Not saying this will solve your issue...maybe try it? |

Re: TXT Stiff as Hell
I think the 'normal' leaf springs have 2 leafs. I thought the HD came in 3 leaf and 4 leaf varieties.
Adding coil-overs is basically adding a second set of springs. Not just shocks. So you've doubled up the stiffness by keeping the leafs and adding coils. I'd recommend taking back the coil-overs and just getting a nice set of shocks. |

Re: TXT Stiff as Hell
Sounds like your springs are too stiff
I replaced my heavy duty springs with duel action springs. They are 3 leaf but unless rear seated gets loaded it rides on the softer 2 leafs. Question if you added “rear” shocks with coil over springs. Seems rear suspension should either use coil overs or leaf springs for ride, not both. Your cart uses either leaf spring or coil over spring for suspension but not both. Shocks only dampen movement of suspension, not control how stiff or soft it is. |

Re: TXT Stiff as Hell
Ya, i didn't think the springs were going to be that stiff if they were actually made for the TXT. Its virtually a strut so having leafs and struts is not the way to go obviously. I plan going to keep the front coil overs because they look awesome and i am gong to remove one leaf from the front. Hoping that will make the front not as stiff. I do a lot of trails riding so i need good movement in my suspension. For the back i think i may go with the monroe's that someone suggested in another post.

Re: TXT Stiff as Hell
I bought two Steeleng leaf rear springs last year and installed my 2003 TXT. Cart rode like a wagon. No give at all but hey, they were heavy duty.
I sold them and bought two stage OEM's. Rides like a dream. These Steeleng springs would give a cart a little lift though. |
