Re: 1995 EZGO Elec. Medalist torque upgrade needed question
I don’t think there are chips for that year/type of controller, but one of the experts will have to confirm.
You can upgrade to a controller that will pass more amps to gain some torque. You can also buy an upgraded motor. There are some folks here with upgraded 36v carts that do pretty well. Most people go to 48v in addition to the things already mentioned. Your 36v to 12v reducer gets powered by pack + and -. Check out https://www.cartsunlimited.net/. It’s a great spot for upgrades and to learn about carts. |

Re: 1995 EZGO Elec. Medalist torque upgrade needed question
A 1995 Medalist came with one of two drive systems, Series drive or DCS (sepex drive).
If there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover it is a DCS. All carts slow down going uphill, some slow more than others. If the cart's tires are taller than stock (18"), than it will slow more than a stock cart will. What is the top speed on level pavement and what does it slow to on hills. Also, how steep are the hills - Grade conversion chart attached. |

I attached an inclinometer to the passenger side rear roof support.

Re: 1995 EZGO Elec. Medalist torque upgrade needed question
I have a 1995 Medalist DCS that used to slow down on hills. I replaced the controller with an Alltrax XCT400DCS and a heavy duty solenoid. Changed all the cables including the ones going to the motor with 2 gauge cables. Still running 36 volts. I have a 4" lift and 20" tires. It is a completely different cart now faster and will actually gain speed on hills when you press the go pedal. I purchased the controller and solenoid from Carts Unlimited. ScottyB was a huge help.

However, if the cart is traveling at less than its maximum uphill speed, it will be able to accelerate to its maximum uphill speed while going up a hill. Except for the taller than stock tires, which causes a cart to slow more going uphill, everything you've done to you cart minimizes its speed loss going uphill. |
